Stress Management Assessment & Readiness Test

SECTION 2: Realistic Thinking

This section will help you decide whether your self-talk is helping or hurting you. Specifically, we are looking for thoughts that increase stress. Our thoughts prepare us to deal with stressors or threats in our environment. More often than not, our thoughts cause us to worry unnecessarily even when we are not being threatened. For example, thoughts that are overly demanding, rigid, and negative, will lead to more stressful feelings and behaviors. Thoughts that are flexible, forgiving, and positive will help reduce stress.
