Stress is something experienced by everyone, and it is often misunderstood. Simply stated, stress is a state of readiness that prepares you to do your best. Whether you're trying to escape danger or prepare for a challenge, stress helps you to do your best. However, experiencing a high level of stress for a long time can cause you to lose sleep, feel constantly fatigued, have trouble concentrating, and respond irritably to those around you. Untreated, long-term stress can become disabling and even life threatening. Assess your readiness to begin a program by taking the Stress Management Assessment and Readiness Test (SMART).
